Zine

Since 2024, Stephen G. Rae have been creating a series of illustrations inspired by creatures from mythology, folklore, and fantasy fiction, and these will feature in a series of Zines.

The first on the subject of Dragons, and the second, an Imaginarium. These can be purchased in the UK from The Great British Bookshop. More Zines are planned for the future.

Zine 1 – Dragons

Exploring 14 types of dragon and dragon-like creatures from myth and legend, folklore, and fantasy fiction, and seventeen illustrations. For example: Blue Dragon from Celtic mythology and Japanese culture, and its ‘crystal energy’; Black Dragon from Scottish and Hungarian folklore, and its Labradorite ‘crystal energy’; the Cockatrice from folklore has the body of a dragon and head of a rooster.

Zine 2 – Imaginarium

A place to let your imagination run wild and to introduce you to some of my favourite characters from folklore and mythology. Eighteen creatures with their illustrations. For example: Piasa is a curious hybrid creature from native American mythology; Tarasque is a creature from French mythology, a beast with a lion-like head, a body protected by turtle-like carapace, has six feet with bear-like claws, and a serpent’s tail; Minotaur was a ‘part man and part bull’ monster on the island of Crete. In Japanese folklore, Kappa is a water monster about the size of a child and has a strange human-reptile appearance with webbed feet.
