Illustrations

Here are a selection of Stephen’s illustrations. Some appear in his book Boggarts, Brownies, Hobs and their Goblin Kin, whilst others have been published on his social media accounts.

Redcap is a murderous goblin from folklore that resides in ruined castles. Should anyone impede on its territory it will throw rocks, and if hitting them, will soak its cap in the victims blood, giving it that distinctive red hue.

Boggart is a Brownie gone bad, an unwelcomed guest in any household, causing calamity and mischief.

Muki is the ‘pale goblin’ from South American folklore, residing in caves and has a fondness for gold.

Green Man is the foliate head carving often seen in churches, but has become a symbol of paganism.

Jenny Greenteeth resides in deep pools. She is a ‘nursery bogey’, a being to frighten children with: “Don’t get too close to the water’s edge or Jenny might get you”.

Brownie is a householder helper who is most active at night. Just as well, for he is very hairy and generally nude!
